Sangaram Jangid (Rtd. IPS: 1985 Batch)
Administrative & Motivational Icons — Barmer, Rajasthan

Sangaram Jangid, the first IPS officer from the Jangid (carpenter) community in Barmer, Rajasthan, was born in the small village of Kawas. His father, Dungarram Jangid, was a carpenter. Despite growing up in a humble background with limited resources, Sangaram had a deep interest in education from an early age.

He completed his primary schooling in the village and moved to Barmer for higher education, completing his 12th and BA there. Later, he went to Jaipur for an MA degree. To fund his studies, he worked part-time at the Jaipur Telephone Exchange. His routine was tough working during the day and studying at night. He eventually ranked third in the entire state in his MA.

His dream was clear: to become an IPS officer. While continuing a government job to support his family and education, he prepared for the UPSC exam on his own. After much dedication and perseverance, he cleared the UPSC exam in 1985 and became an IPS officer.

His first posting was in Tamil Nadu, where he led the daring "Operation Bawaria" to catch a dangerous gang of dacoits terrorizing South India. His sharp investigation led to the arrest of the gang members from Rajasthan using clues like shoe prints and fingerprints—earning him huge appreciation.

Throughout his career, he received many prestigious honors, including the President’s Police Medal and the Prime Minister's Life-Saving Medal. After retirement, he started the Jangid IPS Academy to guide future civil servants.
