The Incredible Journey of Dr. Jogaram Jangid: From Gangala to District Collector

The inspiring journey of Dr. Jogaram Jangid from the remote village of Gangala to becoming a District Collector is truly remarkable. His path to success is built upon immense struggle and determination — a story that motivates countless others to rise above challenges and achieve their dreams. Preparing for competitive exams by reading old newspapers and listening to the radio, Dr. Jogaram is counted among the most humble and peaceful IAS officers in Rajasthan.

Born on January 17, 1981, as the eldest son of Arjunram Jangid, Dr. Jogaram had a natural inclination toward books rather than his family's traditional furniture-making business. As a result, despite being from a backward region, he carved a path that led him to the post of District Collector of Jaipur. Before becoming an IAS officer, Dr. Jogaram also served as a village development officer (Gram Sevak).

He completed his early education in government schools of Gangala and Barmer. After passing 12th grade, his first government job came in 1999, when he was appointed as a Gram Sevak, with his first posting in Setrau village, under his own Panchayat Samiti. Even after starting his job, Dr. Jogaram did not stop studying and completed his college education as a private (non-regular) student.

Without attending any coaching institute, Dr. Jogaram cracked the IAS exam. According to his brother Nathuram Jangid, he began preparing for UPSC while still working as a Gram Sevak in Barmer for around five years. He studied using books, libraries, newspapers, and by listening to BBC on the radio. In 2005, he cleared the exam and secured 62nd rank in UPSC, marking a major turning point in his life.

Dr. Jogaram is the eldest of five siblings — he has two younger brothers and two sisters. His younger brother Shankar Jangid was selected for IRS in 2013, while his other brother Nathuram Jangid has served as the Sarpanch of their village. In 2001, Dr. Jogaram married Mohari Devi from Ghoniya village of Chauhatan Panchayat Samiti in Barmer. The couple has two children: a son named Amrit and a daughter named Sheetal.

Dr. Jogaram was only the second person from Barmer district to become an IAS officer. At the time, many villagers of Gangala did not even know what an IAS officer was. Some thought he had simply been promoted from Gram Sevak to an officer-level post.

Highlights about Dr. Jogaram and His Village:

Even after becoming an IAS officer, Dr. Jogaram remains deeply connected to his roots. He actively participates in village functions, including weddings and religious events like Jagarans.

Gangala, his native village, is among the most backward regions. For instance, it was only after his brother Nathuram Jangid became Sarpanch in 2017 that mobile network connectivity finally reached the village.

During his exam preparation days, newspapers would reach the village once every two days, and the employment news would take a week to arrive.

Gangala, located just 60 kilometers from the India-Pakistan border, had only one bus that connected the village to Barmer.

When he became an IAS officer, his first full-size photograph was taken. Until then, he had only taken passport-sized photos for exam forms.

Dr. Jogaram has served as District Collector of Bharatpur, Dausa, Kota, and Jhunjhunu, among other key administrative positions in Rajasthan.

Dr. Jogaram Jangid's life is a living example of triumph over adversity. Coming from a backward area, he proved to the world that success does not depend on resources or facilities — it depends on dedication, hard work, and unshakable willpower.
