Late Pt. Ramji Lal Jangra – A Legacy of Struggle, Service and Leadership
Pt. Ramji Lal Jangra was a prominent figure in the fields of politics and social service in Haryana, who dedicated his entire life to the welfare of the people. He was born in 1920 in his ancestral village (formerly known as Kurdi, now Arya Nagar) in Hisar district, Haryana. Despite coming from a humble background, he carved a distinct identity in society through his hard work, integrity, and visionary approach.
His family life reflected simplicity and strong values. He is survived by his wife, Smt. Gyana Devi, two sons—Subhash Chand Jangra and Ved Prakash Jangra—and five daughters. Both his sons are successful businessmen, while his daughters are well-settled in their respective families. His brother Mohar Singh and other family members have also remained socially active.
Pt. Ramji Lal Jangra made significant contributions to the development of his village and region. It was through his efforts that the name of the village was changed from Kurdi to “Arya Nagar,” which remains a lasting symbol of his contribution. He shared a close friendship and strong political association with former Haryana Chief Minister Chaudhary Bhajan Lal, and it was on his recommendation that this name change became possible. Even today, the villagers remember this contribution with great respect.
Political Journey
Pt. Ramji Lal Jangra began his political career in 1960 when he was elected as the Sarpanch of his village. This marked the beginning of his leadership journey. He later became a member of the Hisar-2 Block Committee and eventually rose to the position of Chairman.
He also served in several important roles such as a member of the Haryana Electricity Board, Chairman of HARCO Bank, and District President of the Congress Party. Later, he became a founding member and General Secretary of the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC), further expanding his political influence.
The most significant milestone of his political career was his tenure as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha. He was elected twice to the Rajya Sabha from the Congress Party—first from 2 August 1992 to 17 May 1993, and then from 3 April 1994 to 2 April 2000. During his tenure, he strongly represented the voice of his region and community in Parliament. He was widely recognized across North India as a bold and outspoken leader.

Pt. Ramji Lal Jangra’s life was not limited to politics; he was deeply committed to social service. He always stood as a voice for the poor, the weak, and the marginalized sections of society. He enjoyed immense respect and strong influence across different sections of society.
He followed the principles of Arya Samaj and lived a life of simplicity, truth, and service. He had deep faith in Vedic philosophy and consistently promoted unity and brotherhood within society. His personality was marked by humility, generosity, and strong moral character, which set him apart from others.
He also made a mark in the business world by establishing industries in cities like Surat, Nagpur, and Hisar, thereby contributing to economic growth and employment.
